Primula allionii 'Eveline Burrow'

26th March 2018 3rd March 2022 10th March 2023
I bought it from Aberconwy Nursery in 2018, attracted by the dark colour.

In an article in the Bulletin of the Alpine Garden Society, Dr A. J. Marcham gives the description:

"'Eveline Burrow' (a) [Lismore 86.16.4]. Vivid purple, neat round flower, thrum-eyed. Late, tricky and superb."

A seedling raised by Brian Burrow during the days of Lismore Nursery.

Robert Rolfe says of Brian Burrow, writing in the Bulletin of the Alpine Garden Society:

"His most extensive endeavours have involved European primulas, and P. allionii above all, which he has hybridised, back-crossed and rigorously selected for 40 years. Some of the early ones involved named forms of P. x pubescens, giving rise to some very showy, rather flaunting offspring that caused quite a stir in the first half of the 1980's. His present-day collection includes almost none of this sort. Indeed any that arise are either given (or thrown) away. Thrum-eyed, slow growing and vibrant P. allionii 'Evelyn Burrow' is now more typical of his output."
