Primula 'Lilacina Plena'

5th April 2006 16th March 2008
A very old cultivar of Primula vulgaris that is vigorous and tall gtrowing. The flower stems flop about a bit, but it is easily forgiven.

Ballyrobert Gardens say:

"Primula vulgaris 'Lilacina Plena', sometimes known as 'Quaker's Bonnet', is a rose-violet, lilac, or orchid-pink frilly double primrose that has blooms that somewhat resemble miniature roses. The nearly evergreen leaves tend to hide the first blooms that appear early & mid winter, but as the blossoms pick up steam toward the end of winter & early spring, they are quite showy. This dates at least to 1835, & probably originated earlier still in Ireland. Such double primroses were very popular in Tudor gardens."
