One of the (relatively) small species, forming rosettes about two feet (60cm) wide. The species comes from Chile
and is reported to survive significant freezes. I have seen it growing outside near Penzance and will try it here when I have: 1) - grown a spare rosette; 2) - grown sufficient courage to divide it. This plant died in the cold winter of 2015-16 but I don't think it was the real P. coerulea, I think it was the hybrid P. x berteroniana. |

I replaced the original plant with this, which I think is the real thing. The species is native to central Chile where it grows in dry scrubland at altitudes up
to 6,500ft.

After several years in the greenhouse it was finally planted out in the garden in 2022 and seems to be establishing. The problem here will be keeping it dry enough through the winter.
