A crested form that I got from Stephen Mules at Lower Kenneggy Nursery. I have been slowly killing it for a couple of years by keeping it too moist. I have learnt the lesson, but
I'm not sure it was in time. My premonition was correct, I was too late to save it. San Marcos Growers say: "Pyrrosia lingua 'Cristata' (Crested Tongue Fern) - A unique cultivar of the Tongue fern. The 18-20 inch long and 2 inch wide thick, dark-green blades are held upon slender creeping rhizomes. Blade tips are several times irregularly forked (crested) with a slight twisting to the entire blade exposing the undersides covered in many small (1mm) round sori which are cinnamon colored. Slight twisting of the blades provide a great contrast from the green tops to the tan undersides. Cold hardy to 0 degrees in the ground and into the 20s if potted in a container. For best results place in bright indirect light and fertilize throughout the warm months with fish emulsion. " 'Cristata' is sometimes referred to as the Cristata Group because plants produce fertile spores and the resulting plants vary slightly. |
