A cut leaved form of this Chinese oak species. I think it has a fascinating leaf shape but it lacks the astonishing
leaf size of the typical form. It didn't survive for long. I think it needed a much warmer summer than my garden can provide. Trees and Shrubs online says: "A Japanese garden variety with the leaves deeply dissected into narrow, crisped lobes; described in 1879." The RHS website says: "'Pinnatifida' is an upright, deciduous, slow-growing tree to around 10m tall. Spreading branches with stout stems bear dark green, obovate leaves that are deeply cut into narrow and pointed lobes. Young leaves emerge edged pink in spring and turn shades of orange and yellow in autumn. Greenish-yellow catkins in spring are followed by clusters of brown acorns about 2cm long." |
