Reineckea carnea is a woodland plant from Japan and China. It spreads quite rapidly
and the well known plant in cultivation may be a single clone, it is certainly quite uniform. As a consequence the arrival of a new plant creates considerable interest (insofar as Reineckia attracta attention at all). This is a collection made by Stella and David Rankin and it has been suggested that it is a new species. It is different but let's not get carried away with rash enthusiasm! I bought it from Beeches in 2009, their label says: "carnea is said to be the only species but this potential new species is very different. Running root with arching grey-green evergreen strap like leaves. Short spikes of pink tinged white flowers, summer. Convallaria relative for part shade. 15cm" |
