I bought this division from a local grower and it has been tough, but not strong enough to take a winter in the greenhouse. Jay Pfahl says: "Found in Costa Rica at elevations of 1500 to 1700 meters as a small sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte... Similar to and often made as a synonym of R trichoglossa but differs in the larger flower, wider lip more than .1" [2mm] wide and the synsepal heavily spotted." The Writhlington School Orchid Project says: "Restrepia lankesteri is generally considered to be a synonymous with Restrepis trichoglossa, a much more widespread species of Central and South America but the flower of R. lankesteri is larger and a different shape and so we keep the species separate. Our plants arrived amongst the plants of a generous Costa Rican diplomat in the 1990s unable to look after his beloved Costa Rican orchids." |

This one survived because I brought it into the house to spend winter on a windowsill.
