Rheum x hybridum 'Raspberry Red'

Rhubarb rhubarb rhubarb, wherever do you start with rhubarb. I once grew 'Prince Albert' and 'Victoria' under the apple trees (I once grew apple trees ...). Rhubarb is always fun to grow, it produces leafy exuberance and an occasional bowful of stewed cheerfulness. I have some space, I don't seem to have found any rhubarb lately , so I planted this one. 'Raspberry Red' sounded promising, this is what it has managed so far.
I am peckish, and I think destined to remain so for a while.

James Mcintyre online says:

"Originating from ‘Rhubarb Triangle’ in West Yorkshire, an outstanding early cropping variety that produces high quality deep red thick stalks, literally bursting with flavour."

On the other hand, Otter Farm say:

"An old Dutch Variety that’s recently been reintroduced. I haven’t grown it yet but its deep red stalks are supposed to be especially sweet and delicious and of very fine quality. I’m certainly looking forward to when mine are old enough to harvest from. A mid-season, good grower and heavy cropper, that loves full sun."

In brief, I got it from Lelant Garden Centre but I don't know where it came from!

I should really know that a rhubarb crown purchased as a dry tuft in a plastic bag will take a while to bounce back. Fortunately it has recovered some poise and I have started to look at it with an eye to stewing. Safe for now, I will try to remember to feed it something rich and 'well rotted' with a view to a snack or two in 2015.
