A lilac flowered Glenn Dale Azalea that has grown well in light shade. I bought a lot of evergreen azaleas in the 1980s and they have been planted around the garden.
I am very slowly getting to grips with their names and identities (and I wish I had taken better pictures when I planted them). The International Rhododendron Register says that it is a hybrid raised by B.Y. Morrison in 1948 by crossing R. ('Lilacinum' x 'Willy')(seed) with R. ('Mrs Carmichael' x 'Willy')(pollen). Their description says: "Fls single, 2-4/truss, 50mmn wide, deep purplish red, with a yellowish pink tube. Shrub to 1.5m. Midseason." ('Willy' is a very early, rose pink flowered Kaempferi azalea raised by C.B. van Nes and sons some time before 1939). |
