Rhododendron williamsianum 'Caerhays Form'

A small growing species from China where it occurs on isolated cliff faces at high altitudes. One of the first species I grew decades ago and I became quite fond of it. I lost it somewhere along the way and was very happy to get a replacement a few weeks ago.
E.H. Wilson discovered the species in 1908 near to Washan, while collecting on behalf of the Veitch Nurseries. Seedlings were raised and in 1911 young plants went to J. C. Williams at Caerhays. This is probably one of those original introductions. Collection number W.1350.
