Rhodohypoxis 'Garnett'

Archive entry 04.06.07

Pinkish red with broad petals. So far, this has not produced the dense flowering clumps that make Rhodohypoxis so striking, but it is early days.
I bought it from Aberconwy Nursery. Their label says:

"Long flowering South African tufted plant. Bright red flowers. For full sun in acid or neutral scree, peat bed or trough. May-Aug. 5-10cm. Dormant in winter."

First listed in the Knockdolian Nursery catalogue for 1959, proprietor Major General D. F. McConnel, and probably raised by his wife Mrs Ruth McConnel (though it may have come from her mother, Susan Garnett Botfield).
Though usually spelled with a single 't' in the trade, the RHS list it as 'Garnett', which makes sense given its origin.
