Distinguished from the other Rodgersia species by the greenish sepals and petals. I have planted it in the
herbaceous border where it is growing strongly and looking rather lush. I bought this one from Crug Farm Plants, their own collection number HWJK 2140. Their catalogue entry says: "From one of our seed collections gathered from a vertical cliff with a narrow path hacked into its side, above the raging River Arun, just after it had passed into eastern Nepal from Tibet, in the autumn of 2002. Here it had seeded about only forming small plants to 1m tall in the starved conditions, unlike the monsters we had encountered in richer soil, with 2m long leaves on the same mountain. Forming clumps of glossy pinnate leaves on reddened stems below the long panicles of white flowers which had long faded when we found them. Easily grown in a moisture retentive but drained soil in part or light shade. In the herbaceous border the cream-green flowers are striking in their season. It has been compact, floriferous and reliable, one of those plants that is quietly outstanding. |
