Rohdea japonica CGF

I got this strange little yellow plant from Bob Brown at Cotswold Garden Flowers. I assume that it is a seedling. The yellow colour has persisted and the plant hasn't died, so I think the plant is doing it deliberately! New growth has been green, but is starting to fade as it ages.
When I got it, I was happy to accept that the yellowing leaves were a seedling effect of some sort, but it is persisting!

The CGF label says:

"Dark fleshy evergreen leaves in tufts, 30cm. Curious corn-on-the-cob-like fdlower heads among the leaves. Dark sheltereed places."
