Roscoea 'Harvington Evening Star'

A selection made by Hugh Nunn with a conspicuous white eye.

Writing in the Journal of the Royal Horticultural Society about Twelve Nunns nursery, Roy Lancaster says:

"Over the years crosses between R. cautleyoides and R. humeana produced outstanding pale creamy yellow-flowered Roscoea 'Harvington Raw Silk'; purple R. 'Harvington Royale', which flowers from May into mid-July; and R. 'Harvington Evening Star' of a darker colour with a dstinct white eye, flowering a fortnight later."

The description on the Twelve Nunns website says:

"Roscoea ‘Harvington Evening Star’ – its name aptly describes this sultry Roscoea. The deep purple flowers, tinged with shades of black provide the backdrop to the star-like white flecks that twinkle from its centre."

The description on Hugh Nunn's wholesale website says:

"The freshly open flowers are very deep purple/black with white flecks in the centre. Bred and named by Hugh and Liz Nunn at their nursery in Harvington near Evesham. Similar to ‘Harvington Royale’ but later flowering."
