An early flowering purple selection made by Hugh Nunn.

Writing in the Journal of the Royal Horticultural Society about Twelve Nunns nursery, Roy Lancaster says:

"Over the years crosses between R. cautleyoides and R. humeana produced outstanding pale creamy yellow-flowered Roscoea 'Harvington Raw Silk'; purple R. 'Harvington Royale', which flowers from May into mid-July; and R. 'Harvington Evening Star' of a darker colour with a dstinct white eye, flowering a fortnight later."

The description on the Twelve Nunns website says:

"Roscoea ‘Harvington Royale’ has all the pomp and grandeur you need for your garden! This exquisite plant features large, purple flowers that resemble a regal cloak, cascading from a white, ermine-like centre. It’ll bring a touch of majesty to any landscape."

The description on Hugh Nunn's wholesale website says:

"An early flowering hybrid. Large purple flowers create a plant which makes an impact wherever it is seen. Clump forming and lots of vigour. Similar to ‘Harvington Evening Star’ but earlier into flower."
