Roscoea 'McBeath's Pink'

A pink flowered plant that I bought from Ashwood Nurseries. Their label says:

"Beautiful pink orchid-like flowers are held on thick stems bearing broad, fleshy, pointed leaves, red at the base. Prefers a rich, moist soil, good winter drainage, sun or semi-shade. 40cm."

Writing in 'The Plantsman' about the RHS Roscoea trial where it was awarded an AGM, Richard Wilford says:

"This was possibly the most outstanding plant in the trial. It is similar to in form and flowering time but with flowers pinkish-purple (76C), flushed with purple (N18C-B), and greyish red (180C) floral sheaths. The leaves are yellow-green (brighter and greener than 146A)and red tinged at the margins, with leaf sheaths strongly tinged red.
The catalogue entry on Hugh Nunn Wholesale says:

"A very strong growing plant with distinctive reddish purple stems and pink flowers completely different from any other available. An outstanding border plant that calls attention to itself. RHS Award of Garden Merit. The Trial Report states, ‘A very early and attractive cultivar. The best pink colour in the trial. Bulked up well.’ "
