Sambucus nigra f. porphyrophylla 'Eva' BLACK LACE

This purple cut-leaved elder has been the darling of designers in recent years. I was given one that grew for a number of years in a shrub border, until that border became too crowded when the elder seemed to be the perfect plant to move. Unfortunately it didn't go well and every attempt by the elder to regrow was thwarted by grazing vermin (rabbits or deer). I want to replace it but can't think where to put it. I did have a young plant that went in last year, but then a pine tree fell on it. It may still survive under there, but it hasn't been a good start.
Raised by Ken Tobutt while working as a geneticist at East Malling Horticultural Research Institute in Kent and introduced by Horticutural Research International. Holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
