A low growing form with maroon flowers. Leaves with regular white variegated margins. I got it frfom Madrona Nursery, their label says: "New dwarf form with tiny silver margined leaves and short upright stems with salmon red poker flowers. Hardy and tolerates most soils. 18ins." It was shown at the AGS Pershore Summer Show. The write-up in the Journal says: "At just 15cm (as shown) to c. 35cm in height, this is one of the dwarfest of the latterly fashionable burnets. Introduced from Japan a decade ago, this is sometimes given as a clone of S. minor or else of S. officinalis var. microcephala. Divide in spring, provide a sunny, well drained but not drought-prone position, and add the leaves to a summer salad. They are said to taste of pepper-seasoned cucumber." Walters Gardens in the USA add: "This perennial has been in retail in Japan for a number of years, and is recently making a splash in the European and American markets, thanks to Osco Garden and Luc Klinkhamer of the Netherlands." |
