Sauromatum diversifolium

A small growing species. I was sent this tuber quite by accident from a supplier who I think got them from China. The rounded leaves that have been produced are nothing like the lance shaped leaves in the only pictures I have seen, but I assume that is the "diversifolium" at work!
Very late to emerge and I'm not sure that it is getting stronger year by year, so the cold winter may be a bit much for it.

Adventurous Plants say:

"The genus Sauromatum contains a few botanical gems that are rarely seen outside of large botanical institutions. Sauroatum diversifolium is one of these. The inflorescence is one of the most startling and beautiful within the genus.
Easily cultivated in a free draining soil and ideal for pot cultivation due to it’s small size, however, this species is hardy and it may potentially do well in the planted out in the garden in the right spot. Our trials in an unheated coldframe where the pots were subjected to freezing conditions certainly indicate no problems with the cold. Winter wet may be more of an issue, so it is recommended to plant in a well drained spot."

Plants of the world online says:

"The native range of this species is W. India, Himalaya to S. Central China and Indo-China. It is a tuberous geophyte and grows primarily in the subtropical biome."
