There is a terrible, collectable charm to these tiny saxifrages. If I had any sense then I would have built a suitable raised bed for them outside.
As it is, I grow them all under cover in pots where they get too hot in the summer and suffer from red spider mite. I bought this one from the AGS show at Rosemoor in 2017. The "Allendale" seedlings were all raised by Ray Fairbairn, this one in 1995 from cross between S. 'Quarrywood' and S. georgei. Hoo House Nursery say: "Dark pink flowers up to 4cm (2in) from March to April and growing 15cm (6in) wide. Prefers well drained, gritty soil in sun or light shade. Bred by Ray Fairbairn in the N. Pennines. A hardy hybrid with intense colouring and neat growth. Site in good light but away from hot midday sun. Good for rock garden, raised bed, trough or container. |
