Saxifraga fortunei 'Black Ruby'

A moderate sized cultivar with good red flowers and black leaves. I bought it from Pinsla Nursery in Cornwall. Their labels says:

"Shade loving perennial, black leaves, rich pink flowers on wiry stems autumn, ht. 15cm."

Writing in the Journal of the RHS in 2003, Bob Brown says:

"Several cultivars have even more dramatic foliage, with wonderful colours, textures and shapes. The first of my personal favourites is 'Black Ruby'. This has scalloped, red-black, shiny leaves with deep red petioles. While it is flowering, between October and December, the intensity of colouring in the foliage fades a little, but the deep ruby-red flowers more than compensate."
