A small growing cultivar with red foliage that covers itself in white flowers during late autumn. I bought it from Aberconwy Nursery, their label says: "Our new release for autumn 2002. This splendid dwarf flowering plant is an improvement on 'Mount Nachi' with attractive dark red-brown foliage through the summer and short stems of semi-double pure white flowers of good substance from October to November. 10-15cm in flower, For humus rich soil in gentle shade." Writing about the RHS trial of Saxifraga fortunei in 'The Plantsman' in 2015, Malcolm McGregor says: "Introduced by Aberconwy Nursery in 2002, this was one of their first hybrids. The small leaves are very dark, reddish-green with pointed lobes. The flowers are pure white and contrast spectacularly with the foliage. The long petals are not broadened but most flowers have extra petals occasionaly up to five elongated and five smaller petals. In flowers with just two elongated petals, usually coupled with four shorter petals, the elongated ones are set at a wide angle to each other so giving a distinctive starry effect. Mid (2013 & 2014). Small to medium, 80-10 x 10-25cm." |
