Sansevieria have been investigated by a wide assortment of interested parties through the last hundred years, and as a consequence there are large numbers of
un-named forms being circulated. The USDA did a lot of work finding wild collections in East Africa to be developed as a source of fibre. Houseplant enthusiasts and landscapers have selected
the larger ones for their spectacular appearance, and cactus enthusiasts have ferreted about among the lesser regions looking for cheap thrills. This is one of the numbered oddities, I think an offshoot of the search for fibre. Indra Susandi Plants add the information: "Sansevieria 'Florida H-54-3'- Jankalski. Syn. S. trifasciata x deserti 'Fla. H-54-3' Chahinian, The Splendid Sansevieria 142 Artificial triploid hybrid with two parts of the S. trifasciata x S. pearsonii." There is substantial confusion surrounding the naming and identification of the many USDA hybrids. |
