When I first got it I called this dwarfish green-leaved plant of the S. trifasciata persuasion S. 'Trevenna Green'. There is a lot of hybridisation going on at present, some deliberate, some accidental,
so it was difficult to be any more precise about the identity of an un-labelled plant. I am now confident that it is 'Robusta'. It cost me £1, you can't get too self-righteous about the naming. Chahinian says in 'The Sansevieria trifasciata Varieties': "A definitely distinct variety, the leaves are very wide, up to 12cm. (5 in.), usually 3 to 4 to a growth and do not seem to be more than 25 cm. ( 10 in.) in height, while the markings are like those of trifasciata with the juvenile, mature and elder stages. The shape of the leaves makes it a very attractive cultivar and there does not seem to be any difference between this plant and the reversion of 'Futura'. The reader is exhorted not to mistake the species S. robusta with the plant described here: S. t. 'Robusta'. An unquestionably attractive plant, its decoration qualities ought to be taken into consideration. |
