Sarracenia x readii
Sarracenia (leucophylla x rubra)
The natural ranges of both Sarracenia rubra gulfensis and S.r.wherryi overlap with that of S.leucophylla, and hybrids are not uncommon.
Sarrcenia rubra has a very strong tendency to divide and form dense clumps, and is an excellent partner for S.leucophylla, which can be rather reluctant in that respect.
The hybrid usually divides reasonably freely, but often inherits S.rubra's rather small, sometimes lax pitchers. There are some good plants around, but still much scope for improvement.
The name Sarracenia x farnhamii is a synonym, and should be discarded. Initially I though that the name could be retained at cultivar level, but it is clear that there are a number of
different plants circulating with the name, so it is not tenable.
The concept of S. x readii Farnhamii Group serves no purpose. It is simply a re-statement of S. x readii. The concept of a "Farnhamii" taxon simply has to be abandoned.
