Sarracenia minor

Sarracenia minor is a distinctive , small growing species. It grows from North Carolina (in the extreme south of the state), through South Carolina, Georgia and Florida (extending about half way down the peninsula). In its general aspect, the plants are quite uniform, but there is variability in the length of the hood, and the extent to which it closes over the 'mouth' of the pitcher. The amount of copper colour in the top of the pitcher also varies.
The only distinct variant occurs in the Okefenokee swamp on the border of Georgia and Florida. Don Schnell, in 'Carnivorous Plants of the USA and Canada' says particularly in Ware County, Georgia. It is much taller than the typical form, with wider, more impressive pitchers. Originally referred to as the Okefenokee Giant, it has now been formally described as Sarracenia minor var okefenokeensis.
