This has been available as S.alpina from a big retailer for a year or so - unfortunately it isn't the real thing
(which might be hardy). This is a form of S.actinophylla and it isn't at all hardy! Gardenworld (Australia) say: "An evergreen, upright tropical plant with a neat columnar growth habit. Schefflera Alpine is best grown indoors where it is protected from cold weather, alternatively, it can be grown on a verandah or outdoor in a very protected spot from cold weather. " S.actinophylla is native to Queensland, Australia, also occurring in New Guinea and Java, where it grows into a large tree. It has been widely used as a houseplant because it is tolerant of neglect, drought and dry atmospheres. 'Alpine' is being distributed as a compact, upright cultivar. |
