Schlumbergera 'Nicole'

Archive entry 28.12.14

A very floriferous new hybrid. Bright pink, the colour concentrated at the edges of the petals. A glowing plant. Some of the modern hybrids have prospered here in a cold greenhouse and some of them have faded away and rotted, which saves a lot of effort in weeding them out!

McMillan and Horobin say that it was bred in The Netherlands and add:

"Pale pink flowers with white centre."

The Schlumbergera and Rhipsalidopsis website says that it is a seedling from unknown parents raised by J. de Vries Potplantencultures in The Netherlands. They also note that:

"There seem to be multiple different hybrids around labeled 'Nicole'."

As well as the form that I grow, pictures online also show another plant with much paler, soft pink flowers, broader tepals and a less distinct white centre.
