I adore Scilla peruviana, I think it is a wonderful thing, so naturally I wanted to grow the white flowered form as well.
I have two stocks. The first came as seed from the Alpine Garden Society and is slowly maturing. The second is a mature bulb that I think I got from
Julian Sutton but my records are incomplete. Paul Christian writes in his 'Rare plants' catalogue: "The rare and little-seen, pure white form, with yellow anthers and a white ovary, to match the petals. Makes a lovely counterpoint to the blue form but a good plant in its own right. Large heads of flowers borne on short pedicels that elongate with age, all held (on a short stout stem) in a large, conical head, becoming rounded as the myriad flowers open. Long-lasting in flower and hardy here over many years, despite what “the books” might mistakenly suggest." |
