Scilla peruviana var. venusta

A catastrophe of mealybug when it arrived, it is struggling. I got it (complete with infestation) from a well known nursery who will remain nameless to conceal their shame. Their label says:

"Scilla peruviana var. venusta S&L 311/2.
Large heads of purple and deep blue flowers from purple buds on very dark pedicels with pale creamy green bracts and scsapes. (Jan-) May-June. 30cm. (From Kaitouan, Tunisia which makes its hardiness amazing)."

I was going through a crisis of mealybug at the time and was prepared to try anything, so I smothered the bulb in tomato ketchup. It was an act of desperation. In the night a little mouse came along and ate the whole thing, bulb, ketchup and mealybug. It solved the infestation problem but I wouldn't call it a success.
