A boldly coloured and marked cultivar that I bought from Trecanna Nursery. Raised by Martin Harber in Germany in 1977.
His description is quoted on Sempervivum List: "Ros. 5-8 cm, dark brown, green inside, almost black in winter, dense". I 2001 Horst Diehm said: "Rosettes 7 cm, apple green inside, fading into deep brown on the outside, almost black in winter, flower carmine pink, 15 cm". Craigiehall Nursery say: "Smallish rosettes of dark, brown-red rosettes. New rosettes are freely produced and numerous so 'Bronco' soon makes an imposing colony. Probably one of our 'top ten' Semps for ease of growing, colour, size, etc. One of relatively few Sempervivum cultivars that have been given an Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural society. Only a few dozen Semps were evaluated for this award but at least 'Bronco' performed well. The AGS Encyclopedia says: " Small green rosettes with very pointed leaves that are flushed heavily at the tips with deep purple. Retains a good colour throughout the summer." |
