A well marked, colourful cultivar that grew rapidly with me. I got it from Trecanna Nursery. Craigiehall Nursery say: "Rosettes are dark plum or aubergine purple at the season's start and develop a bright red flush in the centre. Very eye-catching. Brighter red overall in summer. Medium sized. Grows and multiplies well. Bred by Sue Thomas (GB) 1999." Erwin Geiger is quoted on Sempervivum List saying: "This British breed forms smaller to medium-sized rosettes that show a very varied coloration throughout the year. In early spring in dark aubergine, in April mixed with strawberry red, until July in orange ochre and in summer in a mixture of olive and brown, whereby in autumn the green part of the colour pigments slowly turns dark brown again. PS: In fact, two different clones have now been found in the collectors' circles under this name. Contact was made with the breeder and now it is known who is out of place. The variety with the better characteristics is genuine. It is more vigorous and has a more intense coloration that lasts even in summer. " |
