A pure green form of Sempervivum calcareum. I was sent it by a grower in the Czech Republic and found it a moderately vigorous grower
which surprised me. Pure green forms of plants are often a little feeble. Craigiehall Nursery say: "A bright, light green colour with little pink or red leaf tips in summer - an excellent, bright addition to any mixed collection. A selection of Sempervivum calcareum from a limestone area of the French Alps. Easy enough to grow but it is slower growing. Collected in the wild and named." Sempervivums by Post say: "'Limelight' glows, especially during the spring and early summer months. The vibrant fresh lime green colour of this sempervivum is enchanting, enriched by a tiny amount of red on the leaf tips. A good contrast to other colours. You'll want this beauty." Sempervivum List says: "Named by: Mary and Peter J. Mitchell / GB / 1980 actually S. calcareum from Ceuse - but introduced under the cultivar name 'Limelight' and very widespread; originally collected by Ben J.M. Zonneveld." |
