Sempervivum 'Cherry Tart'

A plant with a good name that was a little less impressive when it arrived. Fortunately it went on to colour well and deserves the 'cherry' appellation. Sometimes things get good names that they struggle to live up to, this isn't one of them. Raised by David Ford in the UK and introduced in 1977.

Horst Diehm said:

"very large rosettes, wide flat leaves, beautiful dark red."

Erwin Geiger is quoted on Sempervivum List saying:

"The cherry tart is a feast for the eyes every day! The cherry-red colouring lasts all year round, and in autumn the leaves turn warm burgundy. A plant that I wouldn't want to miss in my collection. The annual growth is small. Therefore, unfortunately, only a few plants have to be given away every year.

The AGS Encyclopedia says:

"One of the most outstanding cultivars. It has quite large rosettes with wide flat leaves, shiny and a beautiful shade of rich wine red for most of the year."
