A vigorous plant raised by Sandy MacPherson in the USA and introduced in 1961. I liked the pink flowers and the dense, bronzed rosettes. Horst Diehm wrote: "small dark red rosettes, more olive green on the outside, silvery eyelashes, slender foliage, flower 25 cm, slender with adjacent leaves, fresh pink starly flower on the inside carmine" Erwin Geiger is quoted on Sempervivum List: "This hybrid was bred in America and forms dense, high-arched tuffs of budding rosettes. The leaves feel velvety due to their dense hair." Craigiehall Nursery say: "Medium-sized rosettes with green leaves in the centre changing to red nearer the leaf tips. Each leaf is edged with silver hairs (called cilia) which adds a further dimension to this attractive cultivar. Very popular in the US where it was bred about 60 years ago. It has stood the test of time and grows just as well in the UK." |
