More accurately, Sempervivum montanum ssp. carpaticum 'Cmirals Yellow'. The most spectacuarly yellow of a small group of yellow rosetted cultivars.
Unfortunately it also seems to be the most feeble, it wimps along and will drop dead if given a suitable opportunity. Too much water,
too much sun or insufficient nervous angst seem to be enough to carry it away. Still, I am inordinately fond of it. There are some new gold foliaged plants in the "Chick Charms"
series raised by Chris Hanson that may be stronger growers.
Erwin Geiger is quoted on Sempervivum List:
"This sensational local form of S. montanum ssp. carpathicum was found by Otokar Cmiral from the Czech Republic in the Low Tatras and propagated in culture.
In spring, the rosettes are almost completely yellow in full sun and nutrient-poor soil!
This coloration is unique and only yellow or yellow-green seedlings are known from S. heuffelii."
