A large growing grey-green cultivar with hairy margins to the leaves. Raised by Haullauer in the USA and introduced in 1969. Horst Diehm said: "reddish leaves, strongly ciliated and covered with tufts of hair, the long silvery hair sits on both sides of the leaves" I think this is probably from N. A. Hallauer's Nursery, founded in 1914. They sold herbaceous plants and alpines in Webster, New York and had a number of sempervivums including several without names that they sold under numbers. I haven't been able to correlate their descriptions (from the 1934 catalogue) with this plant, but this one is given a much later date of introduction. BioLib.cz are the only site to list it as 'Hallauer's Seedling' (without the extra 'u'). They say: "Medium-sized rosette leaves with apical tufts of hairs, mostly crimson red in spring, later turning greenish." |
