A small, finely textured cultivar with red rosetted, the leaves edged with fine hairs. I bought this one from Trecanna Nursery but I first grew it in 1981
when it came from a local garden Centre. Raised in 1969 by A. Hansen in the UK, a hybrid betweem S. 'Stansfieldii' and S. montanum. Horst Diehn said: "medium-sized, pointed rosettes, sapphire green, lighter inside, with grey hairs, purple flower" Erwin Geiger is quoted on Sempervivum list: "A classic from Great Britain. He became known as early as the end of the 60s. Created by crossing the spider webhouse root with a mountain houseleek. This is why it is referred to as a S. x barbulatum cultivar. The medium-sized rosettes are velvety and, depending on the season, more or less white spun. In spring with a burgundy colour." Mountain Crest Gardens say: " This red and green rosette is lightly tufted and has long cilia lining its leaves. Its leaves close inward to a tight ball and flush rose during its semi-dormancy in winter." |
