Sempervivum 'Kiara'

A complexcoloured variety that was grey through the winter under cover but developed interesting red patterns when grown outside. Raised by Volkmar Schara in Germany and introduced in 1998.
Schara's description on Sempervivum Garden says:

"Sempervivum Kiara is a vigorous houseleek that has a pinkish-purple basic coloration and shows large light green leaf ends. This creates a light, green-yellow ring around the rosette centre. The strong contrast between the two colours is maintained almost all year round. The beautiful roofwort arouses great interest among many garden visitors! The old pink flowers with light edges reach a diameter of 2cm. Red stamens and yellow-green stigma adorn the flowers of Sempervivum Kiara."

Horst Diehm says:

"Vigorous variety, pink purple basic colouring, light green leaf ends, strong contrast of the two colours, lasts all year round"

Erwin Geiger is quoted on Sempervivum List:

"A striking novelty of the last few years with strong rosettes: the leaves are purple in the lower half and creamy green towards the tips – vigorous!"
