A cobwebby hybrid with red foliage. Raised by Gustaaf van der Steen in Belgium and introduced in 1979. A hybrid between S. arachnoideum and S. 'Granat'. Horst Diehm said: "Rosettes green, red on the outside, white spun, 2 - 3 cm, pink touch on the outer edge of the leaves" Erwin Geiger gives a different parentage when quoted on Sempervivum List: "Gustaaf van der Steen crossed the well-known 'Gamma' with the cobweb root S. arachnoideum and it was worth it. In summer, the medium-sized, spun rosettes are deep red in color. Vigorous, robust and on top of that magnificent flowers!" Mountain Crest Gardens say: "A tight rosette of wide, red and green leaves. It has a heavy coating of webbing and produces lots of cotton ball-like offsets. Give webbed varieties great drainage and protection from heavy rains, particularly in winter. This cultivar is a hybrid of S. arachnoideum x S. 'Granat'." |
