Red-brown foliage. Alpine Gardens in Dallas, Oregon, described it as "satiny" which is a good description of the sheen. Mountain Crest Gardens say: "Sempervivum marmoreum 'Brunneifolium' (Praeger): Has a unique range of metallic colors through the seasons. It shows silvery pink to chocolatey bronze tones, with flushes of deep rose in winter. It is a prolific variety, sending out lots of new offsets on hot pink stolons in the spring and summer." Craigiehall Nursery say: "An unusual and uncommon variety, this is the 'brown' leaved houseleek. At some stages of growth it can indeed look brown - a pale, milk chocolate colour with a hint of pink. At other times it can much pinker as pictured here, but if you look closely at the leaf tips you can see the brown developing. The leaves are broad and smooth and the offsets are produced on thick, pink-stemmed stalks. It makes good mounds and does well in higher rainfall areas. Quoted on Sempervivum Liste, Erwin Geiger says: "This attractive shape was collected by Degen at Trikule Castle near the village of Svinitza in Romania (formerly part of southern Hungary): unique rosettes with a uniform brown colour that turn reddish-brown in winter. |
