A dense growing and dense leaved cultivar that grew strongly outside. Raised by Martin Harberer in Germany and released in 1978.
A good plant but I don'y really understand the name. Perhaps I am being stupid but I only associate Midas with gold and this one isn't (while others are). Martin Harberer's description gives no insight: "Ros. 4-7 cm, olive green, reddish tips". Volkmar Schara is quoted on Sempervivum List: "A very beautiful green plant, with dark colored tips. Particularly interesting, however, are the large, strikingly pink flowers! Vigorous, medium-sized plant that forms great cushions. 'Midas Groen' is very similar, but the green basic colouring is much lighter! So not a synonym!" Little Prince Plants say: "Sempervivum ‘Midas’ is a rosette-forming succulent with thin, velvety green, upward reaching leaves with pointed, maroon-red tips. This variety forms mounding clumps of ball-like rosettes. Displays clusters of pink flowers on large inflorescences." |
