Sempervivum 'Patrician'

I was sent a small packet of rosetes of 'Patrician' and potted them up. Unfortunately I think there was a rogue among them, one of the rosettes responded to conditions here by turning bright red. I think 'Patrician' is the green form that blushes slightly at the bnase and tips of the leaves, but I could be mistaken. In the end I gave up and planted them both in the garden to take their chances anonymously. Raised by Ed Skrocki in the USA in 1973.

Horst Diehm says:

"rosettes up to 8 cm in size, olive green on the inside, red on the outside, fine edge fibres, more pinkish red in autumn, flower 20 cm, needs more nutrients than others".

Erwin Geiger is quoted on Sempervivum List:

"The variety 'Patrician' has been thriving in my collection for a long time. This plant is a houseleek with smaller to medium-sized rosettes. The spring colour is bright orange-red. The edges of the leaves are ciliated.
This American hybrid is very similar to 'Bedivere' and 'Venus'. The rosettes are slightly darker in color and an idea more attractive. All three varieties also form cristates. Since they come from the same breeder, they could be sibling seedlings !?"

The Alpine Garden Society encyclopedia says:

"A fine cultivar of a rather unusual shade of bright orange-red. A compact growing plant formed of medium-sized rosettes."
