Sempervivum 'Pekinese'

A vigorous, small growing cultivar with cobwebbed green rosettes. Raised by Helen Payne in the USA and released in 1975.

Horst Diehm says:

"small rosettes light or creamy green, tinged with red in spring, light tufts of hair on the tips of the leaves, wishes a somewhat nutritious soil".

Erwin Geider describes it (quoted on Sempervivum List):

"Braided rosettes in a striking light green color, very vigorous!"

Craigiehall Nursery say:

"The green varieties of Sempervivum often struggle to compete with the brighter, red-leaved varieties, but the pale green of 'Pekinese' is equally beautiful. Slightly hairy, it quickly makes attractive mounds and in summer the leaf tips of the older, central rosettes take on pinkish-red tips.
'Pekinese' will add interest and contrast to any collection of Houseleeks and it's one we increasingly like. An easy grower, it's also one we often include in the collections we make up for customers as it's unlikely to disappoint."
