A classic cultivar, believed to be a selection of S. cantabricum, the green leaves have dark brown tips. Raised by Martin Harberer in Germany and released in 1979. Quoted on Sempervivum list, Erwin Geiger said: "A praised S. cantabricum hybrid with medium-sized, fresh green rosettes with glossy black tips. In 2009 and 2010 she won 2nd place in the election of the Sempervivum of the Year! Very popular and vigorous!" And Volkmar Schara said: "An older green hybrid that should not be missing in any collection. The rosettes are very vigorous and quickly form dense cushions. The dark leaf tips give the plant a special charm!" Sempervivums by Post say: "'Reinhard' is a personal favourite. The Royal Horticultural Society trial judges recognised this as an excellent sempervivum variety by granting it a prestigious Award of Garden Merit following the trials of 2005-2008. Introduced by Martin Haberer (Germany) in 1979. Outstanding emerald green colour with distinctive black tips. It's super-tough, always looks great, and other types contrast well when grown in its company." Craigiehall Nursery say: "Medium-sized rosettes, apple green with dark, blackish tips. The colours are very strong and always look better in the flesh. Good in a collection of Sempervivum among all the red and silvery cobwebbed ones. It is an AGM (Award of Garden Merit) plant so it's a good, reliable garden plant. Very popular and multiplies well. Often seen mispelt as 'Reinhardt'." |
