This fabulous red cultivar has just enough wispy white hairs to emphasise the colour of the leaves. Sempervivum List says: For a long time, this variety was attributed to Karl Foerster ( D ) with the breeding year 1936. As Volkmar Schara learned in direct contact with Dr. Konrad Näser as the former head of the Foerster nursery, 'Silberkarneol' was bred by him and introduced in 1981 by the VEG Zierfurt Bornimer Stauden (later Foerster nursery). Horst Diehm said: "Rosettes medium in size, green, towards the middle too brownish-red, very vigorous, flowers pink" Erwin Geiger is quoted on Sempervivum List: "A sensational German breed from the large army of cobweb rooted hybrids. The rosettes form closed cushions. The pinkish-red spring colouring is admirable! The white cotton balls that cling to the tips of the leaves are also charming." |
