A vigorous green cultivar that developed red tips to the leaves when grown outside. My plant is not the clone that originally bore the name. Sempervivum List say: "the clone currently in circulation is no longer the original clone; however, due to its widespread use, it is still known under this name; if you still have the original clone of Martin Haberer from very old times, please contact us!" The original clone was raised by Martin Harberer in Germany and was awarded a gold medal at Kassel in 1981. Horst Diehm said: "Rosettes 8 to 12 cm, light brown-red, green towards the middle, ciliated, pink tips." Martin Harberer's original description is quoted on Sempervivum List: "Ros. 8-12 cm, wide, greenish-pink, dark tips in winter, many runners;"brbr Volkmar Schara says: "The original plant, which was named 'Sioux', can no longer be found. Since then, the variety pictured has taken its place. Since the plant is already very common and shows beautiful colors, we should keep this plant under this name. Medium-sized, vigorous plant." Craigiehall Nursery say: "Colours from purple/green in early spring to a glowing orange/red in early summer, to light green with reddish outers in late summer. A large variety that pushes out solid offsets. The leaves are noticeably edged with little hairs. We have grown this plant for many years and still like it. The original clone (Martin Haberer (D) 1977) is thought no longer in cultivation but this plant has replaced it and the name carried over. " |
