Lithe and elegant like a Spanish dancer, or indeed like a Spanish Dancer (marine). It remained green with me and ddn't grab my attention very often.
Raised by Ed Skrocki in the USA in 1973, another of his seedlings from 'Cleveland Morgan'. I hope he raised a thousand and only named the best,
I sometimes get the feeling that he named every seedling . If this was among the best then I would say that 'Cleveland Morgan' was a very
moderate parent but it isn't true, 'Spanish Dancer' has some really good sisters and half-sisters. Horst Diehm said: "Rosettes pale apple green, pink tinge, metallic bronze glow" Erwin Geiger is quoted on Sempervivum List: "An American seedling of 'Cleveland Morgan' from the 70s: The rosettes measure up to 12 centimetres in diameter. The apple-green, slightly bronze-coloured leaves are partly covered with peach. Due to the velvety surface, they appear slightly metallic, especially in early spring. In its home country, the variety was awarded third place in 1978 and received a "Bronze Rosette" there. Sempervivum 'Spanish Dancer' has little growth, because it usually only forms three to four daughter rosettes." Mountain Crest Gardens say: "A small, tight rosette with a variable coloration of lime green, crimson red, or burgundy. The leaves are covered with short, soft hairs that can give it a velvety appearance. The dramatic colors shift wildly throughout the year." |
