A plant with reddish rosettes that I bought from a local garden centre. It produced pups at the end of long stolons and left a lot of bare space
so although it was distinctive it was never very satisfactory. A seedling from 'Denises Cobweb' raised by Patty Drown in the USA in 1976. Erwin Geiger is quoted on Sempervivum List: "The hybrid is very similar to the variety 'Lavender and old Lace', but is much more vigorous. Introduced in the USA as early as 1976." Volkmar Schara says: "Small, vigorous variety that shows great colors. The slightly white hairy leaf edges are striking, which give the plant a great glow! Super! One parent is said to be Sempervivum 'Denises Cobweb'. Sempervivums by Post say: "'Spring Mist' is a smaller but nevertheless quite vigorous variety with similar colours to 'Lavender & Old Lace'. Raised by a young Patty Warner (nee Drown) in the USA, 1976, under the watchful eye of Polly Bishop. Unfortunately, in Germany, "mist" translates as "manure" - although this quirk of language thankfully didn't dampen their enthusiasm for this variety when it found its way over to the UK and then to mainland Europe." |
