Sempervivum tectorum 'Atroviolaceum'

A large growing form of the species with red-flushed lilc leaves. On old cultivar of unknown origin, first recorded by Henri Correvon in 1924.

Horst Diehm said:

"very large rosettes, changes from olive green to dark red - violet"

Erwin Geiger is quoted on Sempervivum List:

"A large rosetted cultivar that was already described in 1924 in Henry Correvon's work "Les Joubarbes": "A violet form of S. tectorum. Large, regular (symmetrical) rosettes; leaves in different shades of purple; Flowers pink, rarely blooming." There are now various plants under this name in cultivation. The clone offered forms rosettes in the size of Ø 15 to 20 cm and is distributed worldwide."

Mountain Crest Gardens say:

"A large grower with smooth, satiny leaves. It shows shades of scarlet with a coppery sheen and turns a stunning fuchsia in winter. The leaves of this variety are nicely pointed and can show lovely watermarks from their natural coating of epicuticular wax. Each spring, it produces bountiful offsets."
